What to expect during a drain cleaning service?

For more of the simple unclogging work, you can expect a professional plumber to clean your drains by using a motorized drain auger (often called a “drain snake”), typically this will take care of almost any size obstruction within a drainpipe. Often, a drain cleaning starts with using a drain auger to remove the basic drain trouble.

A more thorough cleaning involves doing a sewer camera (video pipe inspection) to inspect the pipeline and allow the plumber to see what the best approach is for the drain cleaning process.

The cable-mounted camera travels down the drainpipe and sends images to a monitor, which allows the plumber to see a complete view of the interior of the pipes. The plumber then can see the target specific area that needs to be cleaned and determine the level of cleaning that is necessary.

The main tool that is typically used for drain cleaning, is a “hydro-jetter”. A hydro-jetter is a professional device that uses motors to place water under extremely high pressure, it then blasts out through the nozzle that is at the end of the hose that is inserted down into the drainpipes. The force of the water scours the inside of the pipes and removes all kinds of accumulation. Having a good hydro-jetting job will allow your drains to stay clean for a long time afterwards.
