What May Cause Your Furnace to Stop Working?

With summer slowly coming to an end and fall approaching us, it will soon be that time of year to prepare for the cold winter months ahead. Nobody wants to be stuck with a furnace not working during the times when they need it the most! A malfunctioning furnace may be caused by a number of different things.

Below is a list of things you can check for before calling the professionals.

  1. The Thermostat
    – Before you start to dismantle your furnace, check your thermostat for a variety of things such as the settings, batteries, wiring also, you can read your thermostats manual, it may be able to help you troubleshoot your thermostat if you believe that is where the problem lies.
  2. The Pilot Light Ignition Switch

– The most common causes of a deficient ignition switch may be due to the ignitor’s age/wear, clogged air filters, a broken temperature limiting switch or even a power surge. Call upon a professional HVAC technician if the pilot light needs to be relit and you don’t feel comfortable doing so.

  1. Components & Fixtures

– Your furnace is composed of numerous additional components and fixtures. If one or several of these malfunctions, it may cause your furnace to shut down. Four of the items that you can check for a possible correction are:

  • A Clogged Air Filter
  • The Circuit Breaker
  • The Blower
  • Pressure Limit Switch
