• A condenser is the outdoor portion of an air conditioner or heat pump that will either release or collect heat, depending on the time of year. The condenser compresses the refrigerant and pumps it to a coil in the form of a hot gas. 

What are the consequences of dirty coils?

• A dirty condenser will run less efficiently, which means it will consume more energy. The entire system will have to work harder, this amount of strain will eventually lead to problems such as early breakdowns, loss of service lifespan, and decreased heat transference. 

Cleaning the unit:

Cleaning the unit doesn’t require a lot and is not as complicated as you may think. Below are the steps: 

1. Shut the unit off
   
2. Take off the coil guards
   
3. Clean off the fan, this is relatively easy because the unit itself can be sprayed with condenser cleaner and a pressure washer that will blast away all the dirty and debris.
   
4. The final step is to ensure the unit is dry before putting it back into service, this is very important.
