Avoid Drain Clogs!
What types of things are not good for my drains/toilet?
The most common things homeowners put down their drains (and/or toilets) that can cause major problems over time:
- Grease, fat, and oils
- Eggshells
- Pasta, rice, and potatoes (anything starchy)
- Flour
- Bones
- Strings or fibrous foods
- Produce Stickers
- Coffee grounds
- Feminine products
- Tissues and paper towels
- “Flushable” wipes
- Hair (Try getting a stopper for your shower/tub)
If the sinks and showers are draining, does that mean everything is good?
– Yes and No! It is great to see that your drains are draining “properly”, but you may not pay attention to exactly how quickly water goes down the drain on a regular basis. When it starts slowing down, most people than notice. Pay attention to how quickly the water goes down and when/if it starts to slow down, do not ignore the signs, it usually means there is a problem, which can be fixed if you catch it early enough. Call a professional plumber to come take a look at the issue, they will be able to evaluate, diagnose and fix the problem.
