4 Most Common Plumbing Emergencies:

1. Overflowing Toilet
An overflowing toilet causes people to panic. Your toilet works hard everyday, so an overflowing toilet being on the most common plumbing emergencies list should not shock you. It is particularly important to remember that although a plunger can fix a clogged toilet (which could save it from overflowing and making a huge mess) a plunger or any other plumbing tools you have at home cannot fix the underlying issues of what causes a toilet to overflow. Have a plumber come into your home to identify the main cause of the backed-up-toilet.

2. Clogged Sink Drain
If your sink drain becomes severely clogged, it can prevent the flow of water and create a major problem. Typically, a clogged sink drain can be unclogged using a plunger or a drain snake. Never use a chemical drain cleaner that could cause major damage to your drainpipes. If you happen to need the sewer line cleared, call a professional plumber to do the job.

3. Burst Pipes
A pipe burst happens when a significant increase in the water pressure builds up in the weak joint of a pipe. If there is too much water pressure it can lead to a pipe bursting or a plumbing fixture to fail, such as the toilet or a faucet. Most homeowners fail to hear the “popping” sound that occurs when the pipe bursts. Depending on the severity of the pipe damage, a pipe burst can cause intense water damage. If you happen to hear a loud sound or if you detect any issues, you should consider calling a plumber right away.

4. Sewer Backup
What exactly is a sewer backup? Basically, your home has water lines that are incoming and sewer lines that are outgoing. The sewer lines / wastewater lines are what moves the used water away from your home. The most common form of sewer backup comes from clogged pipes. If you happen to have multiple drain clogs, gurgling toilets, or even bad odors coming from your drains, this may indicate that you may have a sewage issue and should be looked at and fixed as soon as possible.
